Competition Time

I have been asked time and time again how i create my products and whether they are made by hand so i have decided to put together a step by step demonstration. I have recorded each stage of the process starting with me drawing my latest design 'The Hare', hopefully by doing this excercise more of my customers will see the time and care i put into making each of my products.

It is also competition time for you Night Owl followers, I will show you each step of the process up until i apply the transfer to a piece of china. Soooo, its your job to decide which piece you think will look the best and why! All you need to do is follow this blog and comment below as to which piece you think my brand new 'The Hare' design should belong to and why and i will send that piece of china and a mini digital print of 'The Hare' straight to the follower with the most interesting comment!

I will also record the last stages of the process once i have chosen which one of you will decide on 'The Hare's new home. This will include me applying the transfer and firing the china.

Good luck and be inventive, you have until midnight tonight 14th July.

My drawing of the hare is finished.

About to scan the drawing so that i can edit it in Adobe Photoshop.

The edited version of the hare drawing.

The file ready to be sent to the digital printers.

The transfer sheets have arrived in the post.

Time to cut each one out very carefully. Multiple brews are needed for this stage.

The hare cut out and ready to be applied to one of the following pieces of crockery. This is where you come in, simply choose your favourite piece, follow the Night Owl blog and comment below on which piece you think 'The Hare' will look most at home and why.

I have more exciting news for you! I have a brand new online supplier by the name of Acolyte Home & Gift, a family run web shop based in Cumbria. Acolyte is also an ethical company which work with only sustainable materials which is of course perfect for Night Owl.

Acolyte work with a small number of designer makers including Gisela Graham, a gorgeous home accessories company and Andy Driscoll who produces charming hand crafted wooden pieces.

Barbara from Acolyte Home and Gifts has been an absolute pleasure to work with (we seem to have a very similar sense of humour) has written a lovely introduction to Night Owl for me on the site.

'We are really pleased to welcome Jessica Lennox to Acolyte Home & Gifts and know that we will enjoy working with her. Jessica started her business, the fantastically named Night Owl, in November 2010. Since then she has been steadily developing her wonderful range of quite unique crockery; using her design knowledge and natural artistic abilities to great effect. Luckily for us, the Collection doesn`t just include her wonderful teapots, mugs, sugar bowls and milk jugs but you`ll discover that as you browse through. (Hint: have a look at the tea cosies…).'

A link to Barbara's online shop Acolyte Home & Gifts, please take a minute to have a quick browse!

Next Step

This week i have been spending stupid amounts of time on Photoshop editing photos at the dead of night! I just can't help it, i feel like the walking dead all day and then 10 o clock strikes and ping! i'm wide awake and ready to get productive. I must have been a vampire or something in my past life.

So anyway, this week has been all about putting together a wholesale catalogue that i can send out to potential shops! I finally finished it yesterday morning around half past five... but i am a very happy girl. It contains all of the background info on Night Owl, what inspired me to start up, where and how i work. Then i have included the entire collection of everything i sell (that can be sold in high volumes) with all the product details and lastly how people can order my lovely goods!

Yesterday afternoon was spent emailing shops that i think Night Owl would work really well with and so far i have had two orders :) I am so excited for Night Owl at the moment, since being poorly it feels like for the first time i'm really into it again. Yay!!

If there are any shop owners that read my blog whether it is online or a brick and mortar shop, please feel free to email me at j.r.l.print@gmail.com il send my very posh catalogue right on over!

Should never be allowed money. Ever.

Lets get into a good habit.

Soooo i started back at work last night, whilst i was off sick my boss and friend decided to call it a day and shut the pub. I was given a few weeks to find a new job along with the rest of the staff. Luckily a lady that owns a pub up the road has come in and bought the pub (very brave) and kept us all on!

Last night we all went in and gave the bar and kitchen a spring clean and stocked up etc. so this morning i was a bit tired and couldn't decide what to do first. I sat down and wrote a list, which is still growing, its three o clock and iv managed to tick off two jobs so far. This is a third (blog).

I have taken photographs of all my products that i have created over the last month or two. I kept the style of the photo really simple and i think that they will really improve the appearence of my Etsy Shop. Second on the list was to upload them all onto my new Facebook page, which i've also managed to complete.

So anyway, i have been mind mapping and collecting lots of new and exciting imagery and objects that i can work with to form my new collection 'Garden Party'. The drawings that i have produced so far are a blue tit in flight, another blue tit perched on a birdcage and Mr Magpie holding an antique teaspoon in his mouth whilst standing on the lip of a teacup and saucer. I have started to transfer the designs onto both vintage crockery and also white bone china tea sets and mugs.
